There are many thoughts which run through my head and some of them occasionally are worth sharing in my opinion. So this page is just for that reason. I
Seizing the Moment Some of my hours are spent reading. At present my favourite author is Eckhart Tolle. He is probably best known for his groundbreaking book 'The Power of Now" in the late 90s. His wonderful spiritual teachings and insights are mindblowing and yet so simple and clarifying. Then I sought out his other books, "Practicing the Power of Now", "Stillness Speaks" and "A New Earth". There is so much wisdom packed into these books I am having to buy them all so I can pick them up at any time and re-mind myself. 11 November - Remembrance Day I would like to share an uplifting encounter I had on Friday last. As I drove by the local shops I noticed the old soldiers sitting in their chairs selling the red poppies for Remembrance Day and for the widows of returned soldiers. One man I felt particularly drawn to and on my way back made an effort to seek him out. As I approached the man, sitting with walking stick nearby, neatly dressed in a suit jacket, I noticed the many medals hanging from his jacket. I decided to ask him if anyone stops to ask about his general experience of World War II. (It was actually me who had never stopped to ask any of these brave men, nor had it occurred to me before in my whole life to do so!). He was not able to speak clearly, perhaps he has had a stroke which inhibits this, but the medals showed that he fought in Korea among other places. There were at least 10 medals and it surprised me that they were so heavy, but nonetheless very impressive and I said so. He obviously wore them with pride and I could feel a connection with this man. He reached out and we touched hands briefly. He seemed happy that I showed interest. I was certainly happy that I had at last. Before I left I told him, "I am very pleased to have met you" and he reached out for my hand again and kissed it. No other words were necessary. One of life's most beautiful moments - with an old soldier selling paper poppies in a shopping centre.
